Studying in Australia
Australia takes more Nepali students than any other destination we handle, and for good reason. The degrees are recognised everywhere, the post-study work visa is long enough to build a real career, and there is an established Nepali community in every major city that makes the first year considerably easier.
Who it suits
Australia works best if you want a shorter master's, expect to work part-time while you study, and can support a higher total budget than Europe or Asia would need. Wages are high enough that twenty-four hours a fortnight covers a meaningful share of living costs, though it will never fund your tuition.
Universities and pathways
The Group of Eight are the research-intensive universities, and they are the right target if your academics are strong. Beyond them, the technology and metropolitan universities often have better industry placement rates in practical fields like IT, nursing and construction management.
TAFE and vocational providers are a legitimate route rather than a fallback. A diploma that articulates into the second year of a bachelor's degree can cut both cost and entry requirements, and trade qualifications sit well on Australia's skilled occupation lists.
Regional study is worth considering
Studying outside Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane earns you an extra year of post-study work and additional points toward skilled migration, on top of lower rent. Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and the regional campuses of large universities all qualify.
The honest part
Rent in Sydney and Melbourne is the single biggest shock for students arriving from Kathmandu. Budget realistically before you commit, and consider a share house for your first six months. Genuine Student requirements also mean your study plan has to be coherent: an unrelated course after an unrelated degree invites questions you need a good answer for.
Entry and visa
What Australia asks of you
Academic entry
- Bachelor's: +2 or A-Levels completed, with grades that vary by university
- Master's: a recognised bachelor's degree, usually 50-60% or higher
- Some courses ask for relevant work experience, particularly MBA programmes
English
IELTS 6.0-6.5 overall with no band under 6.0 is the common requirement, and PTE or Duolingo are widely accepted. Higher scores are needed for nursing, teaching and some health courses.
Financial evidence
You must show tuition for the first year plus living costs of roughly AUD 29,710 a year, along with travel money. Funds need a clear, documented source: a large deposit that appeared last month invites a refusal.
Visa
The Student visa (subclass 500) requires a Confirmation of Enrolment, Overseas Student Health Cover for your whole stay, and a Genuine Student statement explaining your study plan and your reasons for choosing the course and Australia.
We prepare the financial file, the Genuine Student statement and the health cover together, and check every document before lodgement.
Visa policy, fees and work rules change regularly. Everything above is what applies at the time of writing; we confirm the current rules for your course and intake before you pay anything or lodge an application.
